Transalpina is a national road in the Parang Mountains in the Southern Carpathians. It is the highest road in Romania, having the highest point in Urdele Pass (at 2,145 m).

In the Transalpine area there are glacial lakes, of which Galcescu Lake, the largest glacial lake in the Gorj area. It is 230 m long, 165 m wide and 3.2 ha in area. The maximum depth is 10 m. It is located at an altitude of 1,950 meters and is naturally populated with fish. The area around the lake, declared a nature reserve, and the Galcescu Glacier Lake are monuments of nature.
