Sighisoara is among the few inhabited fortress cities in Europe and the only one preserved for the most part but also inhabited in Romania. Due to its remarkable architecture, dominant position and geographical environment, the city has been nicknamed the “Pearl of Transylvania” since the end of the 19th century.
Sighisoara has a special image and due to the fact that for centuries, Romanians, Hungarians, Saxons and other nationalities coexisted in good understanding in this medieval town, who helped each other, giving birth to a multicultural community.
