A unique nature reserve in the country, popularly called the “small canyon of Romania” is located a stone’s throw from the city of Sebeş, in Alba County. Râpa Roşie is a natural, geological reservation, formed in red clay, 60 million years old. Fossils of dinosaurs have been discovered in its area.
It is the only reservation of this kind in Romania, its formations being comparable to those found in the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River in the USA. A huge wall, almost vertical, with the appearance of a huge organ, leaves the impression of a ruined ancestral monument.
